About Us

We met in 1989 at Taylor High School in Katy, Texas. Darren moved to town from Dallas and Katie from Norman, OK. After high school, we both went to Texas A&M and ended up back in Houston after graduation. So, we've known each other for 20+ years but we didn't hang with the same crowd and have lived parallel lives...until our 10 year high school reunion in 2002 when we got to know each other as the people we'd become rather than the idiotic teenagers we had been. After a courtship full of travel and fun, we relocated to Austin and married at the end of 2004. The Hoy House was born.

Not long after, we decided to add on to the Hoy House. Alyssa Lillian was born at the Austin Area Birthing Center on December 14th, 2005. Aly is the quintessential first child; the rule follower, studious, and serious. She's a teenager in a 2nd grader's body.

After relocating back to Houston to be closer to grandparents, we added on to the Hoy House again. On the 10th of July 2007, Jackson Cooper was born at Nativity Birthing Center in The Woodlands. Jax is a fun-loving kid who loves to run and play. His laugh comes up from his toes.

Our final addition to the Hoy House arrived on February 27, 2010. Matthew Aaron was surprising from the moment he arrived. In a shot, he joined the world at home with only a 2 hour start to finish labor.  Just hours after he was born we began to uncover just how unique he is. Mattie is our game-changer, one in billions kid. He's strong and sweet.

We have 2 dogs, Leia is a black lab mix who is getting up in age (born 1999) and Padme is (maybe) a yellow lab mix who is still very energetic (est born 2008). Life is a little crazy with 3 small kids and 2 dogs, but it is a fun life and never boring.
