Today was a big day…it was Matthew’s first day in daycare.
I was hopeful that it would go well and that they would find the magic bullet we need to improve Matthew’s feedings. Unfortunately, through all of their efforts, the wonderful teachers weren’t any more successful than we have been. He took less than 2 ounces of bottle the entire 5 hours he was at school today. Not good. We’ll have to see how the rest of the week goes and look at our options.
Thankfully, as we are at the end of our rope, we had a GI appointment today. Dr Leung thinks there are several things at play here: 1. Reflux 2. Matthew’s low muscle tone 3. Aerophagia (Matthew’s taking in too much air when he eats). He wants us to a) try other bottles (we’ve been trying this but will keep trying), b) put rice cereal in his bottle (we’ve been trying but can’t find a nipple that allows the cereal through but doesn’t choke him) c) get an upper GI d) add another medication in addition to the Zantac. After trying all of this, we have a follow up in 2 weeks. We are hopeful that this will be what we need to feed without stress! I hope to have good news to report soon!
To add to the craziness at the Hoy House, Jackson came down with strep throat. Hopefully he’s on the mend by taking his antibiotic and we can avoid passing it around.
