Not even sure where to begin. Most of today was quiet, waiting for Matthew’s bowels to wake up. I had a nice visit with Matthew’s Grandma Joy and one of my dear friends, Bonnie. Matthew was quiet, alert and seemingly better today. Then the clock struck 4pm and the story changed.
Matthew became fussy, his urine output decreased, and he threw up green bile. Not good. This means either (a) his bowels are still asleep or (b) there is an obstruction. So, after hours of waiting for doctors, supplies and medicines, I was ready to spit nails. Thankfully before I exploded, Matthew was hooked up to an NG tube to pull the bile from his stomach, he’s had an x-ray of his belly to look for blockages and a pain pump to administer pain meds has been ordered because he’s in considerable pain. In addition to all of this, Matthew’s IV fell out of the vein and filled his right leg with fluid which causes additional discomfort. Finally, Matthew pulled out the NG tube, so he’s had to have both the IV and NG tube reinserted this evening. Lots of action since 4pm and none of it fun.
Now we need the doctor to read the x-ray to find out if we are dealing with (a) or (b). Not sure if we’ll hear tonight or tomorrow early. We’ll update when we know more. Until then, we’ll be praying for comfort and healing for Matthew.
